As the Outer Space high season approaches in the hill country we are getting ready just like you! Now is a great time for a few reminders as you start digging that equipment out of the shed:
1. Lawn mower tune-ups!
Its one of those things that “its fine” until its “not” and you are caught with a lawn mower that won’t start and a pulled back muscle from trying to pull the cord for 30 minutes. :D … A tune-up kit is really inexpensive, you can go on Amazon and just search the engine type, $10 later you have a fresh air filter and spark plug on your door step. (Make sure you have the appropriate “spark plug socket” wrench for your engine.) The gas, unless you’ve used a product like Stabil Fuel Stabilizer, will likely need to be refreshed.
2. Now is the time to get compost fertilizer on your yard.
A good base provides nutrients and helps water retention. By getting it out now, you can take advantage of the spring rains, allowing the grass to get good root formation before our ‘challenging’ summers.

3. Now is a good time to get some seeds started for your garden.
Make sure to find a good seed provider. Nothing is so discouraging as a season of hard work never producing any ‘fruit’. We prefer seed companies such as Seeds and Such. Caution, make sure you can move them into warm cover in case we get a late frost.
4. When choosing a garden soil, it pays to be particular.
Not all things labeled “garden soil” are equally balanced and nutrient dense. Do your homework. 🤓
